Carterton resident Tammy Abarno has been nominated as the Conservative candidate for the forthcoming Carterton Rock Farm ward by-election on Thursday 22nd January after the resignation of another Liberal Democrat from the town council.
Tammy grew up in Carterton as part of an RAF family and returned to the town nearly five years ago and now lives on Lawton Avenue with her family. She brings almost 30 years of experience in social care, having worked as a carer, social worker and later life advocate for older people.
In announcing her candidacy, Tammy emphasised the importance of strong local representation and genuinely local decision-making.
Tammy said: “I am standing because I believe local people deserve to be listened to and respected, and that decisions affecting Carterton should be shaped by those who live and work here. I want to be a strong, practical voice for the Carterton Rock Farm ward, standing up for residents, families and local businesses, and ensuring that decisions are properly scrutinised and accountable.”
Cllr Michele Mead of Carterton Town Council welcomed Tammy’s candidacy and expressed her support for the campaign. Cllr Mead said: “I am very much looking forward to supporting Tammy in this crucial campaign. She brings a wealth of experience, strong local roots and a genuine commitment to listening to residents. I am confident she would be a great addition to the Conservative team on Carterton Town Council and a real asset to the town.”
If elected, Tammy has pledged to represent the interests of Carterton Rock ward and the wider community, to advocate for local people, and to work constructively with fellow councillors to help keep Carterton a safe, welcoming and thriving place to live.
